So in my family we have a few feature films that really define us as a whole. They're mostly feel good classics that have been viewed so many times that at least one family member can (and usually does) recite all the lines to everyone else's dismay. ((I'M SO GUILTY)) Tonight PK, the Rottens and I are watching Finding Nemo. This one holds a super special place on my move bookcase because when Kris was little he used to have terrible night terrors and we would turn FN on and wait for him to 'come back' from his dream. After months of doing this almost every night, Jordan, Pretty Krittie, and I know almost the entire movie by heart.
This movie is such a hoot. There are so much hilarious little jokes that could do easily be missed, and don't even get me started on Ellen Degeneres as Dory, or as Karm calls her, Dorky. The woman is a comedic genius.
I'm so grateful that we can spend time together like this as a family, enjoying the little things like a movie we've all seen about a thousand times.
Here's a list of great movies that you should try if you've got a little extra time and want to thoroughly enjoy yourself:
1. Steel Magnolias
As someone who is totally a Shelby with a mom that's totally a M'Lynn, this is my favorite movie. Throughout the whole thing, there aren't five minutes that pass that either don't have me rolling with laughter or pulling out the Kleenex. It's a great movie to watch while folding laundry or cleaning. I've seen it countless times and yet the silly jokes crack me up every time and the touching moments still have me tearing up even though I know they're coming.
"Go ahead, M'Lynn slug her! We'll sell t shirts that say I slapped Ouiser Boudreaux. Half o' Chinqapin Parish would give their eye teeth to take a whack at Ouiser!" -Clairee Belcher
2. Sixteen Candle
John Hughes completely and utterly nailed everything about this movie. I think that while watching it, every girl becomes Samantha Baker and feels her mortification throughout the film and her excitement at the finish. The characters and script are so well executed that absolutely every exchange is perfect. Keep an eye out for Long Duk Dong's argyle pants, Samantha's underpants, Carolyn's new 'do, Farmer Ted's photo op with the female extraterrestrial, and don't forget Rudy, the oily bohunk.
"You don't spell it, son, you eat it"
Don't worry, there are more family classics to come!
